After emigrating to America from Mexico with her daughter, Flor goes to work as a housekeeper for a chef and his insecure wife where she has to contend with learning a new language, her daughter approaching womanhood and an eccentric family. When Flor and her daughter Cristina are invited on holiday with the family, all the relationships involved take a new turn.
