Scarlett struggles when Jeff Fordham wants his new artists to cultivate hot, sexy personas; Rayna wants to obtain the rights to her music; Avery and Gunnar decide to record songs with Scarlett's friend Zoey.

Rayna plans a star-studded baby shower for Juliette, but gets distracted by Sadie's drama; Luke and Bucky both hope to sign Ron Pope, a rising singer-songwriter; Gunnar is upset as Scarlett and Dr. Rand grow closer.

Rayna and Juliette get ready to perform in San Diego in their first arena concert on the same bill. Rayna finds that working without Deacon is too disruptive and makes an interesting proposal to Liam, while Juliette sends Sean a message through the press. Gunnar takes a road trip to Austin to visit his brother, and Scarlett tags along for the ride so she can catch Deacon's performance in Texas with the Revel Kings. Meanwhile Avery makes his move to sign with Dominic, and Teddy and Coleman's campaigns find them in a dead heat.

Deacon awaits his pending jail sentence as Rayna is in a coma; Teddy grapples with Peggy's pregnancy; feeling alone, Maddie turns to Juliette; Gunnar's proposal complicates his relationship with Scarlett.

In the Season 1 finale, Rayna performs at the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley, but the night may not end well when Deacon confronts her about a buried secret. Meanwhile, Juliette finds a revealing letter from her mom; and Gunnar tries to win back Scarlett.
