Hasan Balaban, a soldier of the Ottoman Empire, is wounded in battle, and Gloria, a beautiful witch from Moena—a village in northern Italy—takes him in and helps him recover. Soon, the Janissary discovers that everyone in the village is a victim of their feudal lords, who exploit them and impose abusive taxes. Just when he decides to leave, a tragedy turns him into the defender of the oppressed.
