On a planet just like Earth that is populated only by children, Kirk's landing party contracts the virus that killed adults while stretching the youngsters' lifespan to hundreds of years. Enduring the natives' bizarre and violent tactics, the trapped party must cure themselves and the children — including one who has a crush on Kirk.

Beaver decides he wants to be a writer when he grows up. His father is very supportive of this and buys him a diary so he can practice his writing and keep a journal of his daily activities. However, when Beaver neglects to come home, his parents break into his diary to discover his whereabouts.

There is a contest and a prize for the person who draws the best poster of the colonial period. Beaver begs his father to help him, but Ward refuses saying that this is Beaver's project. Although Beaver thinks it turns out pretty badly, he winds up winning the prize for originality.

When Dr. Kirby looks at Beaver's throat; he tells Beaver that he might have to have a tonsillectomy. Beaver becomes very scared until Ward tells him about all the ice cream and presents he will get. Dr. Kirby decides after all that Beaver doesn't have to have a tonsillectomy and Beaver is actually upset because he was looking forward to all the gifts and ice cream.

Beaver and Ward enter Father and Son Kite Day. Ward agrees to help Beaver build a beautiful kite, and they do. Ward warns Beaver not to touch the kite and let the glue dry for a day before they do anything with it. However, Beaver takes the kite out anyway and ruins it. Wally tries to help repair it, but it is useless.

When one of the teenagers on the block is busted by the police for marijuana possession, Maude, the people's defender, heads a group to keep the youth out of jail. Maude frantically tries to buy some marijuana which she plans to distribute among the ladies of her vigilante group and then insist they all be arrested.
