The Case of the Grinning Cat
A grin usually hints at some sort of mischief and in the case of this documentary by Chris Marker troublemaking certainly runs rampant. Known for his own cartoon cat character, Guillaume-en-Égypte, Marker and others in France begin to take note of a yellow cat caricature with a distinctive grin appearing in street art, in demonstrations and circulating in popular culture at large. In the film, while capturing footage of labor strikes, political marches and other incidents/scandals, Marker explores the presence of this curious cat and its meaning.
