In the spring of 2014, the U.S. was jolted by a wave of mass shootings—in Santa Barbara, Seattle, Las Vegas, Portland, and beyond—that captured media headlines. But during that same time, more than 8,000 other men, women and children also lost their lives to guns in a dizzying variety of tragic accidents.
