Owning Mahowny
Polite, mild-mannered Dan Mahowny (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is an assistant bank manager with a head for numbers and a devastating appetite for gambling. Based on real events of the freewheeling Reagan '80s, this phenomenal story involving $10.2 million in siphoned bank funds and staggering levels of embezzlement is driven by a gambing addiction so powerful it pushes Mahowny to the limits of ingenuity and stamina. By day, he works obsessively in the bank, where his girlfriend, Belinda (Minnie Driver), is a clerk; by night, he gambles obsessively on sports, ponies, and at the tables. Mahowny finds himself in a gambler's paradox-playing against increasing odds in order to win back the limitless funds that are his to take, as long as he doesn't get caught.
