Right to Fight
The untold story of how a small group of maverick pioneers led by Cat Davis and Lady Tyger overcomes the odds to become the first women issued with professional boxing licenses. New York, 1974: the city is overcome with economic and social unrest as the United States reckons with women's rights and pervasive racism. When a small group of women from all walks of life decides to forge a path into boxing, the most macho of sports, they are mocked and patronized, told they are too delicate to fight, and their attempts to secure boxing licenses are rejected. But they refuse to give up, and upon taking the New York State Athletic Commission to court they ignite a movement across the country that changes the face of boxing forever. Using previously unseen archive footage and intimate interviews with the key figures in the events, this cinematic documentary takes viewers ringside to see one of the greatest fights never told.
