The Last Anniversary

Scribbly Gum Island is a place of many secrets. The one that made it famous is the disappearance of a young couple, Alice and Jack Munro, who vanished one night fifty years ago and left behind a baby girl. Teenage sisters, Rose and Connie, rescued baby Enigma and then raised her as their own. Now matriarchs of Scribbly Gum Island, Rose and Connie live (relatively) peacefully alongside Enigma, as well as Connie's daughter, Margie, and her fairly hideous husband, Ron. The family has turned the island into a semi-successful business - a destination for true crime tourists who fancy a day out on the water and a slice of homemade marble cake with their unsolved mysteries. When Connie's death rocks the family, Enigma and Margie discover a letter addressed to 'Sophie Honeywell' to whom Connie has bequeathed her house. Sophie is 39, single and the ex-girlfriend of Connie's grandson, Thomas, and so this is certainly an eccentric decision. However, Scribbly Gum Island has a long history of welcoming lost souls and Connie saw in Sophie an innate sense of joy which she felt the island needed now more than ever. But has Connie also brought Sophie, a journalist, to the island so that the family's mystery will finally be solved? Will Sophie find her own happy ending? Sophie signs the papers to Connie's house and catches the eye of local lawyer and single dad, Ian. Settling into the house, Sophie finds a book called 'The Baby Munro Mystery of Scribbly Gum Island', a collection of photographs taken by Connie's late husband, Billy, detailing some of the clues about what might have happened to Alice and Jack. Meanwhile, Grace and Callum leave the hospital with baby Oliver, and Grace feels overwhelmed by the responsibility of new motherhood. Sophie's told she has to host her first family dinner in Connie's house, where she reveals a shocking secret about Alice and Jack Munro after some research into immigration records.

Sophie and Veronika interview a police detective called Audrey, who suggests they investigate the origin of Alice's famous white, bloodstained dress, leading them to Finch & Sons department store. Thomas' infatuation with Sophie has seen him kicked out of home by his wife, Deborra. Meanwhile, Margie starts her first photography class, where she connects with the handsome teacher, Ronald. Sophie meets the sexy Zeke, who offers to sell her his boat, and Ron makes Sophie an offer for Connie's house. Grace continues to struggle with baby Oliver.

Alice and a teenage Rose both anger their boss, Mr Finch, for rejecting his advances. Sophie and Veronika find Mr Finch's son and concoct a plan for Audrey to request his DNA to find out if Enigma is Mr Finch's daughter. Margie brings the family together to plan for their big, public anniversary party, thrown in honour of Enigma's arrival into the family. Sophie invites Veronika and Audrey to disastrous dinner with Zeke. After he declines Sophie's invitation to a pool party, Sophie attends with Callum and the two share a friendly day in the pool - could there be something more there? Meanwhile, Grace has vivid daydreams about Sophie growing closer to Oliver and Callum - a perfect family while Grace floats further to sea.

Connie tries to set up Rose with a suitor, but Rose rejects him, angering Connie. Grace goads Callum about his flirtation with Sophie. Sophie faces pressure from her editor to file a story, but Sophie assures her she is on the cusp of something big. Two of Australia's biggest unsolved mysteries might be related. After more disastrous encounters with the men of Scribbly Gum Island, Sophie returns to the city and wonders if its time she left for good. Ron ambushes Rose with an aged care assessment in attempt to push her off the island. Margie and Ronald's connection deepens, and Ronald helps Margie uncover an important clue to the Alice mystery.

As the truth behind Jack is revealed and the Last Anniversary Party kicks off, more secrets are unearthed on Scribbly Gum Island.
