Karl Alberg moves to a quiet coastal town to soothe a psyche that has been battered by big-city police work but finds himself needing to call upon all his skills to solve the murders that continue to wash up on his shore.

When a body is found at a local wedding between members of two feuding families, Alberg and team are called to the scene to investigate; Cassandra participates in a town hall debate and is confronted by Mayor Holman.

During a heated argument between a husband and wife, things get out of control; Cassandra wins the final council seat in Gibsons, but Mayor Holman makes Karl Alberg an offer that would interfere with Cassandra's plans.

While celebrating their high school reunion, several former classmates of Cassandra's discover a dead body at the marina, which leads Alberg on an investigation into whom the dead resident of Gibsons was and who is responsible for the murder.

Karl and the team investigate a reported bear attack, leading to questions about foul play due to inconsistent stories; Karl's daughter and friend continue to work on solving their own case.

The investigation to find a possible serial killer in Gibsons continues; Alberg and his team piece together clues and discover an unusual pattern that relates back to familiar works of art.
