Pappano Conducts Tippett & Beethoven

Sir Antonio Pappono leads the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a transcendent program of two monumental choral works that confront the darkness of humanity and the powerful rise towards hope. Tippett's "A Child of Our Time" is a deeply personal oratorio written in response to the horrors of Kistallnacht and the Nazi persecution of Jews. Drawing inspiration from a novel about a young German soldier who is punished for an act of compassion, Tippett's music explores the complexities of justice, human suffering, and spiritual redemption. Featuring soloists soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha and mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges, tenor Sean Panikkar and bass Solomon Howard, this resounding performance with the LSO shimmers with glimpses of hope. The concert ends with a cornerstone of the choral repertoire, Beethoven's epic "Symphony No.9." Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the symphony's UK premiere in March 1825, the LSO gives a luminous performance of this beloved piece. Joined again by the brilliant lineup of soloists, Pappano guides the orchestra from turbulent struggle to the triumphant and hopeful finale of the "Ode to Joy."
