The Owl Vs Bumbo
Owl vs. Bumbo is typical of Hong Kong Cinema's eighties output, meaning it's a melting pot of various genres, including slapstick comedy, martial arts action, and even romance and drama. Director Sammo Hung gives both he and George Lam romantic interests, with Owl (Lam) becoming involved with social worker Miss Yeung, played by Hong Kong superstar Michelle Yeoh, in her very first screen appearance. Bumbo (Hung) also romances a social worker, played by singer-actress Deannie Ip. The film also provides surprising drama, as two couples attempt to repair the lives of a group of juvenile delinquents. However, despite that detour into inspirational drama, the film regroups for a martial arts action finale, plus there's even an added treat for Sammo Hung fans: the famously large martial artist engages in a solo dance number! Funny, poignant, and quite surprising, Owl vs. Bumbo is classic Hong Kong entertainment.
