Jiang Hu: The Triad Zone

Acclaimed crime film director Dante Lam's (The Beast Stalker) subversive Hong Kong gangster comedy Jiang Hu: The Triad Zone didn't pull in big numbers at the box office when it was out in theaters in 2000. It took some time for the brilliance of the film to be recognized, and once it found new life on video, it has since acquired a considerable cult following that could possibly outnumber any triad gang in the world! Turning genre convention on its head, the script by Chan Hing Ka and Amy Chin features a captivating narrative with pitch-black humor and a host of colorful characters. Tony Leung Ka Fai heads the star-studded cast in the central role of Jimmy Yam, a flamboyant gang boss being targeted for assassination. The people around him are all suspects: his wife (Sandra Ng), advisor (Chan Fai Hung), bodyguard (Roy Cheung), mistress (Lee San San), disciple (Samuel Pang), the major rival (Siu Leung), the jailed right-hand man (Eric Tsang), and a dodgy cop (Eason Chan). Everyone hides some unexpected secrets, and Yam must identify who is out to get him...before it's too late. The film has numerous other star cameos, and watch out particularly for award-winning actor Anthony Wong as one revered figure of the triad world. Jiang Hu: The Triad Zone proudly received four nominations at the 20th Hong Kong Film Awards, namely Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Tony Leung Ka Fai), and Best Supporting Actor (Roy Cheung).
