When word spreads that Lorelai was the one who proposed, Luke is embarrassed; Lorelai, still angry at Rory for dropping out, tells Emily and Richard that they can care for her now.

Rory is touched when Emily and Richard throw a party to introduce her to their Yale alumni friends; when Dean arrives at the party to pick up Rory, it is clear to him that he has no place in her privileged world.

Lorelei is stunned to hear Rory's plans for the future and turns to Richard and Emily for help, but soon realizes that Luke is the only person she can trust.
