Catalina helps Earl atone for number 75 on his list: Used the mailbox as a trash can. Clearing out the mailbox, they find two undelivered letters: one that reveals secrets of Darnell's mysterious past to a shocked Joy, and a love letter that never reached its intended recipient, leading to humiliation for the sender. However, Earl's attempts to make amends are hampered by his attraction to the love letter's addressee.

Earl wakes up from his coma and tries to find Billie, who he has decided is his soul mate, but Billie thinks Earl is dead and her ex-boyfriend Frank still holds a candle for her. Also, Catalina decides to become a lesbian.

Upon discovering that he is the holder of a winning ticket, Earl is hit by a car and the ticket blows out of his limp hand as he lies unconscious in the street. While recovering in the hospital and watching television, Earl has a karmic epiphany.

Earl and the gang find out how Little Chubby (a man more feared than his father) became a good person. In order to cross him off his list, Earl learns the true meaning of sacrifice.

Earl visits a TV reporter whose career was destroyed by his and Randy's protracted tomfoolery. When she wants to film a story about Earl and his list, Randy feels left out, and decides to strike out on his own as his brother's opposite: making amends for all the good things he has ever done.

Earl wants to use his birthday to look back on all the good he's done over the past year, but at his party, everyone seems to want to talk about his past misdeeds instead.
