Gendo Ikari summons his son Shinji to pilot Evangelion Unit-01 against an attacking angel, but the overwhelmed boy has difficulty accepting the assignment.
EPISODE 2

Episode 2

After piloting the Eva Unit 01 in battle, Shinji awakens in hospital with no memory of what happened. Feeling sorry for him, Misato allows Shinji to move in with her.
EPISODE 3

Episode 3

Shinji's status as an Eva pilot changes his standing among his classmates and puts him at odds with Toji. Shinji is called back into action when another angel arrives.

Episode 4

Stressed after his last battle, Shinji runs away from home and meets Kensuke. Misato gives him a choice when he is brought back in.

Unit 00's pilot Rei Ayanami seems to have recovered, but has no friends, no record of her past, and no interest in getting to know Shinji.
