On a dark and stormy night in Joseon the Queen is accused of treason and is taken away from her young daughter; ten years later a ship sails through the ocean as a scholar, Gyun Woo, returns home after studying abroad.

A very drunk Princess Hyemyeong scolds a cab driver for treating an elderly man unfairly; Gyun Woo intervenes when the confrontation becomes too intense and gets the Princess home safely.

A bookseller draws an etching of Princess Hyemyeong; Gyun Woo states that this woman is his enemy and goes around town asking people if they have seen the woman in his drawing.

Gyun Woo pours Da-yeon some tea and apologises; the crazy woman from the teahouse is obsessed with Gyun Woo, but he believes he has handled the matter.

Joon-young and Gyun Woo walk through the palace; Hyemyeong attempts to escape the palace by dressing as a court lady.

Hyemyeong walks through the village looking for her jade ring while Da-yeon gets dressed in her best hanbok and shoes; Joon-young trains inside the palace, swinging his sword expertly against his imaginary rivals.
