King Bharat rewrites the history books by naming a common man as his successor. Later, King Shantanu marries Ganga and vows to never hold her accountable for her actions.

Following their marriage, King Shantanu keeps his word and does not protest the sacrifice of his first seven sons. However, when he objects to the eight one, his wife abandons him.

Devarata makes the ultimate sacrifice so that his father can marry the woman he loves. Later, the Gods bless Devarata for his sacrifice.

As everyone questions Devarata about his sacrifice, he defends his decision and takes over the responsibility of looking after the kingdom. However, King Shantanu soon dies of guilt.

After Shantanu's son, Vichitraviya, ascends the throne, Devarata arranges his marriage to Ambika and Ambalika, the daughters of a neighbouring king, to King Vichitravirya.

When differences between the Kaurava and the Pandava clans lead them to the threshold of war, Lord Krishna decides to step in and take control of the situation.
