With Barcelona is in crisis, Ronald Koeman arrives as coach. Luis Suarez leaves the team and Messi informs the club that he wants to leave. Joan Laporta is the new president of the club and wins the Copa del Rey, but loses the league championship.

On 5 August 2021, Lionel Messi announces he will not renew his contract with Barcelona, marking the end of a love story that will mark the club forever. Agüero and Memphis Depay join the team.

On 8 November 2021, Xavi Hernández is presented as the new coach. Xavi motivates the squad and rediscovers the style of play. Torres and Auba are signed and Dani Alves returns with honours. Barcelona start to climb the table.
