An eccentric, mystical FBI agent arrives in the small Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of a young high school girl.

After being shot by an unseen assailant, a wounded Cooper has a vision of a giant who tells him three clues to help with the investigation. In the morning, Albert Rosenfield arrives back in town to investigate the shooting.

Still investigating Cooper's shooting, Albert Rosenfield tells Cooper that his former partner and mentor, Windom Earle, has escaped from an insane asylum and may come after him. Meanwhile, Donna meets the mysterious Mrs Tremond.

Hawk tries to figure out the missing details of the Log-Lady. Meanwhile, the Red Room affects Agent Cooper's evil doppelgänger.

Cooper and Agent Rosenfeld are alerted when an attempt is made on Ronnette Pulaski's life at the hospital. Meanwhile, Donna meets with the reclusive Harold Smith, an orchid cultivator, whom she asks about Laura.

The past dictates the future and Cooper arrives in Twin Peaks.
