Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World

Crimson Magic Village is nestled among steep mountains and dense forests. The villagers who live there are born with red eyes, fierce magical power and acute intelligence. Among them is a young girl who is fascinated by the crimson flames of explosion magic. She entered the Crimson Magic Village School with one goal in mind: to master the heat, the splendor, the power of the greatest magic she has ever seen. Her name is Megumin and she will one day be known as the crazy explosion arch-wizard.

Megumin shows up at school with the black cat defeated by Komekko in battle. To her surprise, her homeroom teacher, Pucchin, suddenly announces a special lesson. Something is terribly wrong at one of the village’s tourist attractions. The seal on the Tomb of the Dark God has been broken and all the monsters are going berserk. Pucchin instructs the stunned students to break into groups before leaving the classroom—they will level up all at once through real battle.

While the teachers are busy handling the monsters, magic class is held in the library. Yunyun eagerly researches how to make friends. Megumin anxiously looks on as Funifura and Dodonko ask a willing and excited Yunyun to be friends. Dubious about their sudden friendship, Megumin listens as the girls gossip. Suddenly, a mysterious voice echoes throughout the library. The village’s jobless bum, Bukkororii, appears out of thin air with an unwelcome request.

There is something strange going on with Yunyun. She always ranks in the top three for test scores, but when the highest scores were announced, her name wasn’t even mentioned. A concerned Megumin tries to talk to her, but to no avail. Then one day on their way home from school, Yunyun asks Megumin for some advice about the meaning of friendship.

The village alarm rings, warning of an imminent monster attack. Megumin rushes home, only to find a broken door and no Komekko in sight. Megumin and Yunyun manage to find Komekko in the forest; however, they are surrounded by monsters, completely outnumbered, and unable to use magic spells. To save her sister, Megumin must use her skill points to learn a high-level spell, but she will lose her chance to learn explosion magic.

After mastering explosion magic, Megumin graduates from Crimson Magic Village School and immediately starts job hunting so she can pay to travel to Arcanletia. Meanwhile, massive explosions in the middle of the night have the Crimson Village on edge. They are rumored to be the work of the demon army, but the explosions only happen on nights Megumin's job applications are rejected. When Megumin comes home from her nightly routine, she is met by a mysterious robed woman kneeling at her door.
