Cal's professionalism is tested when he discovers that Stephen has been lying to him. Della realises that her own life is in danger.

Cal is released from jail, and colludes with DCI Bell in a plan to smoke out the hit man. Meanwhile, it transpires that Sonia knew she had a job in Stephen's office months before she was interviewed.

Stephen, furious about the affair between Cal and Anne, tells the press in the hope of destroying Cal's reputation, but he soon regrets it.

When the UK's largest oil company gets wind of where the paper's investigation is heading, Cameron finds himself under pressure from his board and makes a startling decision. Sensing that his team is close to snaring their prey, Cal invites Stephen to listen in to an interview with Dominic Foy, hoping that, with a few well-aimed questions, the increasingly paranoid Foy will crack.

Stephen tries to find out who is protecting George Fergus. Cal and Cameron hatch a plan to print the story.
