Kirstie's Homemade Home

Kirstie Allsopp is on a mission to transform a dilapidated country cottage in Devon into the ultimate 'homemade' home, with everything either made in the UK, or made by her. Each week, Kirstie renovates a room and creates a unique and personal dream interior. Starting in the kitchen, Kirstie noses around Lanhydrock House for inspiration, with one of the finest Victorian kitchens in the country.

Kirstie is renovating three bathrooms: a downstairs loo, a family shower-room with a seaside theme, and a luxury movie-star-style main bathroom suite. For inspiration she gets a rare peek into the beautiful home of top interior designer Anouska Hempel. She also visits Burgh Island Hotel, one of Britain's finest art deco buildings, renowned for its glamorous 1930s bathrooms.

Kirstie takes on two rooms: a grown-up sitting room and a playroom for the children. For inspiration, she noses around the opulent Port Eliot, a Grade I listed stately home where plastic ducks sit cheek by jowl with priceless Van Dykes, and Soane murals cover entire walls. Plus, colour guru and knitwear designer Kaffe Fasset teaches Kirstie how to be a slob with colour.

It's the turn of the five bedrooms. For inspiration, Kirstie visits the beautiful Cotswold home of fabric and wallpaper designer Vanessa Arbuthnott; a flat in Hove, East Sussex, which the owners refurbished using recycled and restored furniture; and the opulent bedrooms of the Maunsel House, where she reveals how even the grandest houses aren't too proud to shop second hand.
