Chesters, a Grade I listed Georgian home in the Scottish Borders, is a 215-year-old Palladian-style country house. Built in 1790, it boasts 1,500 acres, including a disused stable block, 14 estate cottages, and a mile of the River Teviot.

Elmore Court is a Grade II listed mansion in the Cotswolds. The £25 million house and estate has been in the Guise family for nearly 800 years. Elmore is owned by Anselm Guise, a 36-year-old dance DJ who inherited the estate when his uncle, Sir John Guise, died in 2007, but Anselm's uncle didn't approve of his nephew's lifestyle and behind the fine facade, Elmore has been deteriorating for years.

Ruth Watson meets Cornelia Bayley, owner of Plas Teg, a Grade One listed Jacobean mansion. Cornelia purchased it for £75,000, but her devotion has come at a personal cost as well.
