A Greek Odyssey with Bettany Hughes

Bettany Hughes sets off on the journey of a lifetime, sailing across spectacular Greece uncovering all of its history including an ancient underwater shipwreck over two thousand years.

Bettany takes a predawn trip to Delos, an island so sacred in ancient times that no one was permitted to live or die there. Next, Bettany's Odyssey sees her setting sail for Ikaria which takes its name from the mythical Icarus.

Bettany Hughes ticks off three more Aegean islands as she follows Greek hero Odysseus home to Ithaca after the Trojan war. The first stop is Santorini, then on to the wine-loving island of Naxos, before her final stop at Sifnos.

Bettany Hughes goes Greek island-hopping to explore their history from the time of the Ancients to the present day. Bettany makes it to Crete, just before a storm does.

Bettany is almost at the end of her journey from Troy to Ithaca. She discovers the prosperous and violent past of Peloponnese, home of the Mycenaeans, but also of mythical heroes such as Helen of Troy, Agamemnon and Odysseus.

Bettany discovers that Corfu has a close connection to the UK before ending up in Ithaca.
