The spotlight of the police and media is now trained on Troels Hartmann, and he feels his political career is crumbling. Meanwhile strange things are going on at the town hall with fatal consequences. Troels is still hiding something from the police, and Theis reaches out in vain to Pernille, who chooses to go it alone, which results in dire consequences. Furthermore, new problems arise in Sarah's private life.

Bengt leaves for Stockholm. Lund and Meyer are hindered in their investigation by a secretive boss, but Lund continues inquiries and is dismissed for her sins. Hartmann strikes a deal with higher powers in order to secure his bid for mayor, and a public debate is the scene of a change in political fortunes. Theis is released from prison, new secrets are uncovered about Nanna's last months, and in a last bid to forward the investigation, Lund unlocks the door to a new piece in the puzzle.

Sarah has found the apartment that Nanna had a key to. The apartment belongs to the Liberals, and it shows signs of a life-and-death struggle with clear evidence of Nanna's presence. Sarah and Jan know who they're looking for, but the reactions of their superior officers are puzzling. Troels is under greater pressure than ever in his private life as well as at work. He doesn't know what to do, and then the screws are tightened.

Sarah and Jan interrogate Troels after he's been cautioned. The police's material is comprehensive and incriminating, and Troels agrees to divulge private information, but denies having known Nanna. Nonetheless, new evidence comes to light that points unequivocally to Troels. Theis is willing to do anything to stop Pernille from leaving him, but the situation has become intolerable for Pernille.

Sarah is in a life-threatening situation, and neither Jan nor anyone else knows where she is. Meanwhile, it looks like the pieces are falling into place regarding the perpetrator. At the town hall, Bremer takes steps to ruin Troels political career once and for all. Pernille gets into hot water and needs help, while Theis is offered help by someone, but refuses.

Sarah and Jan's boss decides that Nanna's case is solved, the murderer being Jens Holck, but Sarah isn't sure and continues her investigation alone. At the town hall, Bremer is seeking a truce, but Troels apparently has something to unveil. While Sarah's private life is falling apart, Pernille and Theis try to reconcile their differences.
