When Carrie has to work the night shift, Doug starts to get lonely, but soon discovers that Arthur is the ideal companion to keep him company.

Carrie is upset when Doug does not take an exam that could have led to a promotion, so he retaliates by becoming a bartender.

Doug and Deacon start hanging out with each other's wives when they find out they have more in common with them than with their own wives. While Deacon and Carrie are getting on well, Deacon's wife Kelly starts to get bored with Doug.

Deacon's son, Major, is left traumatised after Doug reads him a scary bedtime story. Doug does his best to win the boy's love back.
