The Verdict

Paul Newman is never less than riveting as Frank Galvin, a lawyer with a drink problem who still has a few tricks up his sleeve. Billed as a courtroom drama, this is far more than that with a terrific script from David Mamet and sublimely understated direction from Sidney 'Dog Day Afternoon' Lumet. Look out for Bruce Willis as an extra during the closing speech.
