Gilberto Gil, The Farewell Tour

Legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil performs classic tracks from his 70-album career in this farewell concert at the Philharmonie de Paris. The nine-time Grammy Award winner has been compared to John Lennon for the power of his songwriting and political activism. Despite declining health, the octogenarian still brings a rare intensity to his concerts, and Paris is no exception. Accompanied on stage by his sons Bem and José and his grandson João, Gil takes the audience on a journey through his samba and bossa nova hits, including “Upa Neguinho,” a radical cover of “The Girl from Ipanema,” and revisits the essential tropicália period with “Não Chore Mais,” his version of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry.” This intimate, touching, and powerful concert marks a fond farewell to a musical icon.
