John Utterson, an upstanding citizen and attorney, happens upon the aftermath of a violent attack on a young woman by a man whom witnesses describe as depraved and monstrous.

Attorney John Utterson learns of the murder of ex-politician Sir. Edgar Carew; numerous clues lead to Hyde's houseboat; when Utterson confronts Dr. Jekyll with the evidence of Hyde's violent depravity, Jekyll swears to sever his ties with Hyde.

John Utterson interviews a visibly disturbed Dr. Lanyon regarding a strange encounter with Edward Hyde; Lanyon's distress is enough to send Utterson to Jekyll's laboratory, where he persuades the doctor to confess.

John Utterson finds himself locked in a laboratory with Dr. Jekyll, who relates the tale of his fall from the pinnacle of scientific discovery to the depths of violent depravity. As the doctor confesses to his shocking acts, Utterson is horrified.
