Little Joe and Hoss are mistaken for gunmen while in a small Texas town; they find themselves in the middle of a dangerous feud between two families.

While out of town for some business on the purchase of new horses for his farm, Charles spends increasing amounts of time with the Harpers. The family patriarch is an emotionally unstable man who uses alcohol to cope with the death of his oldest son. His wife and remaining two children find solace in Charles' kind friendship, and he soon feels obligated to help them heal somehow.

Opie finds a purse containing $50, but Andy tells him that the money will only be his if no one claims it within a week. Soon, Opie gets the money but has to return it.

Fred's new colour television set may be the same one that was stolen from Grady.

Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) conspires with a corrupt lawyer (Jason Evers) to destroy his Uncle Silas' second will which transfers executorship--and control of $100,000 intended for charity--away from him to Jesse Duke (Denver Pyle).
