Isabel Wallace, a woman who is committed to a women's mental asylum by her husband, insists that she is sane and pleads for her release. Her claims go ignored, as her husband is a well-respected minister in the community. Wallace finds herself under the care of a new administrator, Dr. Benjamin Calhoun, who is trying an unorthodox new program to help the patients, by having them take part in a theatrical production of Herman Melville's Moby Dick
