The Big Hangover
Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson star as wealthy socialite Mary Belney and the young attorney she loves, David Maldon. Brains, money, beauty. This couple should go straight to the top. But then Mary discovers David's complete intolerance for alcohol: Just one drink completely inebriates him--and causes The Big Hangover. David almost drowned in a vat of wine during the war. He survived--but with a complete allergy to any form of alcohol. Now, after the slightest sip at a social function, all self-control slips away for David. It's a problem for an attorney at a big-city law firm, but it keeps him from making a big mistake with his life. Instead of defending corrupt business interests, David's weakness forces David and Mary to follow their hearts and devote their skills to helping the poor and oppressed in this screwball romantic comedy that skewers the social propriety of the 1950s.
