Mani, a master’s student, returns to the community in northern Quebec where she grew up. Her painful past resurfaces. Determined to get involved, she takes part in the debate surrounding a referendum to allow the free sale of alcohol in the community. Opposing forces quickly split the community in two clans, each looking for the best path to independence.
