Blindness

S1, E1: Marielle is shocked when she realizes Jacob's situation. Seeing her beloved son in such distress is profoundly upsetting. Is it heartbreak, a case of depression or drug and alcohol abuse? Marielle wants to intervene immediately so that this unfortunate (and temporary!) episode never happens again. But the reality is even more difficult to accept when the doctors they consult do not exclude anything and even mention the possibility of a serious mental illness.
