Three Australian icons step onto the frontline at two of the country's busiest public hospitals. Jelena works in the emergency department, Matt does a shift on the acute geriatric ward, and Ruby meets a patient about to undergo spinal surgery.

Jelena shadows domestic and family violence social workers in the ED. Ruby feels the pressures of caring for patients with life-threatening conditions the ICU. Matt joins the urology department to see the challenges of treating prostate cancer.
