Joanna begins her journey in Venice and Albania as she walks the Via Egnatia, which once connected the entire Roman Empire.

Joanna continues along the Silk Road, from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea. Not only does she learn the history, but also how Georgia and Azerbaijan are still finding their identities.

Joanna goes to Iran where she encounters locals who are keen to share the culture and innovations of Persian civilisation.

Joanna travels to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. She explores the Kyzl-Kum desert, the Silk Road citadel of Khiva, and the Soviet-built Metro system in Tashkent.
