In the summer before their final year of college, Frances and her best friend Bobbi meet Melissa, an impressive writer. Frances finds herself drawn to Melissa's husband Nick.

At Melissa's birthday party, Frances finds herself alone with Nick. Unable to resist the attraction between them, they kiss.

Frances and Nick meet to discuss the kiss, but their attraction deepens. Things become even more complicated when Nick leaves for the summer.

Frances and Bobbi join Melissa and Nick on holiday in Croatia, but Frances hasn't seen Nick in a while and is nervous.

As Frances and Nick grow closer, things become strained between Frances and Bobbi; a visit from Melissa's agent raises tensions.

Back home, things remain unresolved with Bobbi. Frances visits her mother, but severe abdominal pain sends her to the hospital.
