Responding to Carrie's insistence that he invest their tax return, Doug purchases an ice-cream truck from a stranger. He quickly learns that he is not the only one in town selling ice cream.

Carrie works late and Doug goes to pick up Arthur from his job. Afterwards, Arthur overhears Doug making disparaging comments about him, so Doug takes Arthur to a baseball game to repair things.

Doug lies to Carrie about the result of his application to the IPS management program, while Arthur and Deacon carry out a wheelchair scam. Doug attempts to face his fear of a roller-coaster.

When Carrie agrees to Arthur's choices for what to eat for dinner and which movie to rent, Doug becomes upset that he doesn't get his way; Spence camps out for days outside a cinema.

When Arthur sees a drawing of him done by Deacon's son, he becomes convinced that he needs braces. Spence is hired as the Palmers' servant.
