Joey is fired. While complaining to his brother-in-law at the local diner, he is recorded and the show will be broadcast the next evening.

Mrs Barnes doesn't realise the man she rented a room to is a bookie, not the most reputable of professions.

Buddy Hackett, Joey's old friend, comes to visit, and appears on Joey's TV show. Buddy also delights in playing practical jokes on Joey, starting with a prank call to Joey in the middle of the night.

Joey lands a part in a dramatic picture, but finds the transition from comedy to drama more difficult, and painful, than he had anticipated.

Joey gives a performance at a prison for its inmates. A prisoner who is an exact look-alike to Joey sees his opportunity to escape and forces Joey to trade places with him.

When Joey gets a letter that summons him to jury duty he is reluctant to part with his holiday time for it. He looks for a way to avoid his duty and nags his fellow jurors while doing so.
