Lucy wants to audition for Ricky's show, but he tells her she must first lose weight in order to fit into the costume.

Ricky won't let Lucy go with him on the road, so she auditions for him with her saxophone; Lucy tries to make Ricky jealous, but Ricky gets even by planting men in their closet, so he can act out his jealousy in front of a bewildered Lucy.

Lucy gets herself an invitation to a dance on a show by throwing herself at the dancing star, Van Johnson.

Ricky quits showbiz and starts a diner. With the Mertzes having the `know-how' and Ricky having the `name', unequal division of work soon follows. The Ricardos and Mertzes have a falling out causing the flourishing business to come to a halt.
