Alexander the Great: Legendary Conqueror

Our story begins in Gordion in 333 BC. This city in Asia is associated with an astonishing legend. It has a chariot with a knot, reputed to be inextricable. According to the prophecy, whoever succeeds in untying it will become the ruler of Asia.

The battle between Alexander and Darius III took place in the Issus region, near today's border between Turkey and Syria. Darius had a significant numerical superiority over Alexander—his army was three times as large.

Darius had learned from his failure at Issus. This time, he chose a more favourable terrain, a large plain in the Gaugamela region of northern Iraq. He has also developed a formidable weapon: chariots with blades attached to the wheels.
